  102. Our ham club, Wabash Valley Amateur Radio Assn., goes to Dayton (~200 mi)  
  103. in a chartered bus (one-day stay).  Costs us 25$ per person.  
  104.  
  105. The bus drives right up to the front door and lets us out.  Then it stays  
  106. in the parking lot where we can go to it and "take a load off" or get food  
  107. from our coolers.  (Dayton HF food ain't too good.)
  108.  
  109. If one buys stuff, (s)he can stash it on the bus instead of lugging it  
  110. around all day.

  112. Our bus stops for breakfast in the morning and for dinner in the evening  
  113. on the way back to Terre Haute.

  115. Why don't YOUR club look into this scheme?  It's the ONLY way to fly.

  154. I have a question to ask.  While playing with my new Tropez 90 MHz phone
  155. the other day, I tried putting it into both of my microwaves (no I didn't
  156. nuke the phone :')  and I guess I expected the shielding to cut off the
  157. signal, thereby causing the out of range indicator to beep.  The phone 
  158. was still able to communicate with the base.  If the microwave cannot
  159. attenuate 900 MHz, is it really attenuating the GHz stuff?  Would 
  160. someone care to comment on the type shielding used in these ovens?

  177. I did a similar experiment with my Motorola pager, which operates in the
  178. 900MHz band. I was looking for locations in my house where the pager would
  179. indicate it had no signal (little antenna icons appear on the display!) and
  180. tried inside the microwave. Sure enough, the pager couldn't hear anything 
  181. in there.

  231. This is true if you are just passing through here and not planning on
  232. staying here to live. If you plan to stay here to live you must contact the
  233. Departement of Communications and they will issue you a callsign for the
  234. area in which you will be residing. Otherwise for just passing through you
  235. can use you current callsign and indicate that you are mobile within one of
  236. the VE areas in Canada.

  247. Upon trying to buy a Kenwood TR-851A, I was told that it was 
  248. "quietly discontinued" by Kenwood.  Does anyone have any idea why?

  250. Does anyone have a good suggestion for a good 440Mhz base unit ?  I don't
  251. really need the all-mode capabilities of the 851, but I liked the idea that
  252. it didn't have teenie-weenie controls to make it fit in a car nicely.
